Petit Pont 1
Open Windows Explorer, navigate to your CD ROM, double click on install.exe to start installing the software.
All other products (Petit Pont 2, Little Bridge...)
PC users: Open My Computer, double click the CD-Rom drive displaying the Petit Pont 2.0 icon. If the installer does not start this time, a window will be displayed showing the files on the CD. In this case, double click on the programme called setup-windows.exe. This will launch the installer.
Mac users: Double-click on the Petit Pont 2.0 CD icon that has appeared on your desktop and double click on setup-osx.app. Alternatively, you can navigate to the Petit Pont 2.0 CD directory by using the Finder (located on the dock).
To access the game you need to have scored over 50% on all activities in Units 1 and 2 for Level 1, Units 3 and 4 for Level 2, and so on. This is a deliberate 'carrot' to encourage students!
When using a Classroom Edition for all versions other than Petit Pont 1, the levels can be unlocked without completing the activities by typing in the following code:
unlockgameXXXX
Where XXXX is the last 4 digits of your product key.
For Petit Pont 1 the percentage to unlock the levels can be tailored to the group of students you are working with. There are clear step by step instructions on the last two pages of the CD-Rom inlay explaining how to do this.
The VR (Virtual reality) areas of our products use the 4 arrow buttons on your keyboard. The 'up' arrow is to walk forwards, the 'down' arrow to walk backwards, 'left' and 'right' to turn.
In all versions other than Petit Pont 1, you can also press and hold the second mouse button to then move the mouse and look around.
The software has been designed to be run from a shared network location (drive) or a multiple user system. Settings and scoring are stored locally on each machine that runs the software in a common location (accessible to all users) defined by the operating system.
If using the LMS (Learning Management System) operation mode, available in all versions other than Petit Pont 1, student data is sent to and from an LMS server using HTTP. If your computer is connected to the internet and can view web pages it should be able to use the system. In some circumstances you may need to configure your firewall to allow two-way communications between the LMS server hosted at manic-lms.com. Some security software may additionally require you to allow the application (executable) itself access to the internet; in most cases the security software should prompt the user to do this.
Please Note: We have tried to make the software compatible for as many network situations as possible, however due to the huge number of possible configurations we cannot guarantee the setup of your network; Manic Monkey cannot provide support on setting up and managing individual networks.
For Petit Pont 1:
The Network setup software allows you to point the application to the student's own allocated hard disk space.
For all other products (Petit Pont 2, Little Bridge...)
In local operation mode, settings are stored per machine - one score sheet per machine. If you choose to use the LMS (Learning Management System), students log in to the software to load their own score sheet on any machine.
Yes. If you redo an activity, the new score automatically replaces the old one. Scores are only saved when an activity is completed.
No. On re-attempting a given level you have to start again at the beginning.
When activating your software the computer must be connected to the internet. If you do not have a connection you need to contact 'Support' stating your serial number and a request code will be supplied. Instructions can be found by clicking on the 'having problems' option displayed on the screen after entering the product key.
On Linux you will need to perform the following actions in order to install Little Bridge. You will require root access and an active internet connection for product activation.
You will need to install Adobe Air either from your package manager or from http://get.adobe.com/air/
Copy the LBX.air file to somewhere on your computer (i.e. Desktop) and then run the AIR file in one of two ways.
1. Go to your program menu and select Adobe Air and then navigate to the air file that you have copied to the computer. This will begin the install process on your computer.
2. Open a terminal window and navigate to the AIR file and change the permissions on it by typing 'chmod +x LBX.air'. You may need to be logged in as root to perform this action ('sudo chmod +x LBX.ar'). You can now double click on the AIR file to begin the install process.
Troubleshooting:
If installation fails there is a known issue with Ubuntu / Debian based versions of linux where the '/tmp' directory is too small to continue with the installation. You must create a new partition and mount it in the '/tmp' location.
To do this you will need to install GParted and create a new partition with at least 1.2GB space. Then open the terminal and type 'sudo mount /dev/partition_name /tmp'. You can then continue the installation process as normal.
