Apart from being great fun and truly effective, our products are very flexible and easy-to-use. They work with all teaching approaches – both at home and at school, with individuals and with groups.
If your child uses our products at school, it’s always a good thing if they can practise and consolidate at home. If you are looking to introduce your child to learning a language at home, we think we can help...
First of all, if you are introducing your child to our products then you should buy a
Home Licence.
Now, here are some questions we are often asked by parents. We hope you find these answers helpful:
Do I have to be good at the language being learnt?
There are useful things you can do to help your child, regardless of how good or bad you are at the language in question. Learning alongside your child can provide a real stimulus for both of you, so why not give this a go? The software is carefully structured, clear and fun, so get stuck in together!
Can my child get on with the software on their own?
Yes, your child can use the software alone, but it’s a good idea to watch, at least sometimes. Many activities are scored, so why not challenge them to try and achieve a higher score on a particular activity? A motivating factor for them to get a good score is that access to the adventure game depends on it! Of course, some activities are more fun than others, so you may want to encourage them to attempt some of the more ‘serious’ ones.
Should I test my child regularly on what they have learned?
Whether you should test your child or not depends entirely on the child. Some respond well to being tested (especially if they can demonstrate how well they’re doing), while others react badly to it. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t dampen their enjoyment of the subject by testing!
Is there any speaking practice in the software?
Yes, and the speaking activities require a microphone. Your child will listen to a short dialogue and then take the part of one of the speakers, imitating the speaker and recording his/her voice into the gaps. Alternatively, your child can give an entirely different and personal response.
Should my child be getting the spelling exactly right?
If your child is using the products at school, ask his/her teacher for their opinion – they may wish to keep the emphasis on listening and speaking at first, rather than spelling. If your child is only using the products at home, perhaps keep the emphasis on listening and speaking at first, then if your child proves capable of learning spellings accurately there can be no harm in encouraging this.
